Buckton Surveyors and Planners is a well-established medium-sized survey, planning and ecology firm with a strong footprint across Auckland, Kaipara and Northland regions. Based in the heart of Warkworth, and only 40min from Auckland, our team works across residential, rural, commercial and infrastructure projects, delivering high-quality cadastral and land development surveying services to a diverse client base.

About The Role

As a Senior Surveyor at Buckton, you'll take ownership of a varied portfolio of cadastral, engineering, and topographical survey projects, from initial brief to final delivery from Auckland to Northland. You’ll act as the primary point of contact for clients, liaising with councils and LINZ, and preparing and signing off plans and reports. You'll have the possibility to lead our UAV drone survey work and mentor and develop our junior surveyors.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead and deliver cadastral, engineering, and topographical surveys to a high standard.
  • Ensure all work complies with the Cadastral Survey Rules 2021, relevant legislation, and Buckton’s quality standards.
  • Option to lead our UAV drone survey work - LiDAR data, flight planning, CAA compliance, and the integration of drone data into survey deliverables.
  • Support the Surveyor Manager in workflow improvement.
  • Provide day-to-day technical guidance, mentorship, to junior and intermediate staff.

About You

You’ll bring:

  • Licensed Cadastral Surveyor qualification or years of senior surveying experience.
  • Minimum 8+ years’ experience in New Zealand surveying practice.
  • Current New Zealand UAV operator certification (Part 102 or Part 101), or willingness to obtain.
  • Some experience supervising or mentoring others (formal or informal).
  • Comfortable managing projects end-to-end, including client communication and keeping jobs on programme.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant Survey legislation (e.g. Cadastral Survey Rules 2021)
  • Proficiency in survey software (e.g. 12d, Landonline).
  • Excellent client management and communication skills.
  • Full, clean New Zealand driver’s licence.
  • NZ residency.
