We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Earthworks Project Engineer to join our high-performing team on the Ō Mahurangi Penlink Alliance - one of Auckland's landmark transport projects in the heavy civil space.
You'll be part of a collaborative, site-based team, leading bulk earthworks and associated civil construction to safely and efficiently meet programme, quality, environmental and cost targets. You'll enjoy being out on site, working closely with supervisors, the client and key stakeholders to solve problems in real time and deliver outcomes the community can be proud of. This role is ideally suited to someone based on the North Shore or north of Auckland.
We're looking for a Project Engineer with at least 3 years' experience in a PE role and major project experience.
In this role you will:
- Manage teams and subcontractors in your work area, coordinating with other crews to optimise resources and productivity
- Plan and sequence the works, developing practical construction methodologies for all key activities
- Provide monthly cost-to-complete forecasts to the Commercial Manager, and progress estimates (percentage complete) to the Planner
- Provide technical advice and promptly resolve on-site engineering and design issues
- Maintain a safe, tidy and well-organised site, support the development of management systems, and drive compliance within your team
- Monitor costs, process invoices and contribute to accurate financial reporting
- Undertake regular inspections to ensure safety, environmental and quality standards are achieved across the project
Key requirements
- Strong experience with GD05 and implementation of environmental controls on large earthworks projects.
- Strong financial management capability, including budget management, monthly financial reviews, daily cost control and forecasting; CCS experience beneficial.
- Strong programming and planning skills, including creating and managing programmes for your area, driving efficient daily planning and clearly communicating plans with the site team; CCS experience beneficial.
- Strong technical knowledge across bulk earthworks, deep excavations, batter stabilisation, temporary works planning, earthworks shear keys and/or soil nail works, and pavement subgrade construction.
- Proven ability to identify and solve technical issues in the field.
- Experience with modelling, with Trimble Business Centre preferred and CAD experience beneficial.
- Practical modelling capability beyond take-offs and bulk measures preferred.
- Proficiency in Propeller and GPS/machine control systems such as Leica, Topcon, Trimble and Uni-Control will be advantageous.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with site teams, subcontractors and stakeholders.
- Strong commitment to safety and building a positive culture around large earthmoving plant and equipment.
