The Generation Vote Trust of Aotearoa is seeking an Education Trustee to join our Board as we expand our work delivering non-partisan civics education to young people across the motu. This role is key to supporting continuous improvement of our educational materials. We are a values-driven and collaborative Board looking to take our work to the next level.
The Education Trustee role involves
- maintaining oversight of the Trust’s core workshop programme, including leading the annual workshop review;
- leading the development of additional educational materials and programmes, including local and general election resources;
- developing and maintaining specified activity resources; and
- improving the Trust’s pedagogy, including supporting Branch executives to train volunteers.
Ideal candidate
Our ideal candidate is someone who has two or more of the following attributes:
- teaching experience or expertise, preferably at secondary school level and / or including subjects such as social studies;
- experience developing educational programmes and resources;
- expertise in civics education and youth engagement with politics;
- governance or leadership experience, including in the non-profit sector;
- a strategic focus on achieving the Trust’s mission; and
- is reliable, communicates well, and knows how to work in a team.
Commitment
- to prepare for monthly virtual Board meetings (1-2 hours) which may include reading documents and preparing feedback for discussion;
- to lead or contribute to additional projects and committees;
- to participate in one or more committees, selected based on the member’s interests or skills;
- overall, the time commitment is 5 hours per week; and
- the initial term of service is two years and renewable if desired.
