Mō Mātou - About Us

For 100 years, The Lines Company (TLC) has been keeping the lights on across the King Country. As a community-owned electricity distribution company, we're here for more than just delivering power — we're here to make a positive difference for our customers, our communities, and each other.

We're not afraid to do things differently.

The Lines Company is the first organisation in New Zealand to partner with Fisher Improvement Technologies to integrate the AERO methodology — Advanced Error Reduction in Organisations — into how we work. It’s the engine behind Safety Differently: our intentional shift from compliance to capability, from asking “who failed?” to “what made this make sense?” More than 90% of what goes wrong is driven by the system, not the person — and this is the first approach we’ve taken that aims squarely at that 90%. It’s a years-long cultural journey, and we’re early enough that the right person can genuinely help shape it. This is a rare chance to lead the way in safety intelligence, and to see your work change real decisions.

Our People & Safety team is at the heart of that journey. Together, we're building a culture where curiosity replaces blame, learning is part of everyday work, and everyone plays a role in making sure our people go home safe every day.

Mō te tūranga — The Role

We’re looking for an H&S Advisor — Systems, Assurance & Reporting to own the intelligence backbone of our safety function: the systems and data that tell the truth, and the field-based assurance that keeps that truth honest.

Reporting to the GM People & Safety in a flat, deliberate team, you’ll:

✓ Be our primary Assura administrator — workflows, terminology, risk categories and reporting aligned to AERO — and keep Kotahi and our registers accurate and improving

✓ Own the accuracy of risk categorisation at the point of entry. When a rating is missing or doesn’t look right, you connect with the person who raised it, understand what happened, and set it correctly — a blank or questionable rating is never left to sit

✓ Build and run our Power BI Safety Performance Dashboard, and operate the Capacity Index as our primary leading indicator

✓ Prepare Board and SLT reporting that is honest and decision-useful — surfacing trends and uncomfortable truths early, not just formatting data

✓ Get into the field through the AERO lens. Assurance here is not auditing — it’s understanding the gap between work as written and work as adapted, verifying that critical controls actually work where the work happens, and looking for learnings, not findings

✓ Run the internal audit programme, maintain statutory compliance registers, and track corrective actions — because closed is not the same as fixed

✓ Coach action officers and investigators to build their capability in Assura, rather than doing the work for them

You’ll work as a true equal alongside our Field, Training & Engagement Advisor — you provide the data and the assurance evidence; they provide the field relationships and the reality

Mōu — About You

This is as much a systems, data and relationships role as a safety one. You’re curious, credible and constructive — someone who’s excited by safety intelligence and what it can reveal. You look at data and see insights, systemic drivers and error traps; then you partner with our people to turn those insights into improvements that have real impact.

You’ll bring:

✓ 3+ years in a H&S advisory, coordination or systems role

✓ Hands-on experience with H&S management systems (Assura, Vault or equivalent)

✓ Strong data-analysis and reporting skills — Power BI capability an advantage

✓ Real comfort in a field environment — this role expects real operational presence

✓ Experience in a high-risk operating environment (utilities, construction, energy) preferred

✓ A tertiary qualification in Health & Safety, data / information management, or a related discipline (an advantage)

✓ Technical precision — accuracy and completeness matter to you

✓ The honesty to report data as it is, even when it’s uncomfortable

Above all, you see systems as tools that help people work safely — not compliance filing cabinets — and you’re excited to help carry a safety transformation that’s early enough to shape.

He Aha Te Pai — What you’ll love about us!

At TLC, we’re about more than keeping the power on — we care deeply about our people, customers, and community.

You’ll join a supportive, collaborative team where your work has real impact, and a leadership team that goes first — we model what we ask of the business. This is the role that keeps everyone honest: Safety Differently only works if our data tells the truth and our assurance reflects how work is really done.

Alongside a competitive salary, we offer:

✓ Medical and Life Insurance plus Annual Health Screenings

✓ Lifestyle Leave Days and a Volunteer Day

✓ Paid Parental Leave for primary and secondary caregivers

✓ Annual Wellbeing Payment

✓ Staff Community Fund

✓ Development and career growth opportunities

✓ Additional employer KiwiSaver contribution after three years

✓ Staff deals and discounts

Join a community-owned company that packs a big punch — making a real difference in the energy sector and the communities we serve.
