Line Mechanic Auxiliary Works and Switching

We are looking for a qualified Line Mechanic who will specialize in auxiliary works to join our experienced team at Northpower. In this role, you’ll carry out auxiliary network tasks across the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions which includes stand overs, close approach consents, safety disconnections, and third-party switching. You’ll also support our line crews with the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electricity networks. Every day is different, and your work will directly contribute to keeping our communities safely connected.
Role Responsibilities
Completing a variety of network auxiliary works:
- Stand overs
- Close approach consents
- Safety disconnections
- Third-party switching
Supporting field crews with
- Pole and conductor installation/replacement
- Maintenance and repairs to overhead and underground lines (up to 33kV, sometimes 110kV)
- Operating electrical equipment safely and efficiently
- Accurately completing all required job documentation and reporting
- Proactively identifying and addressing health, safety, and quality issues

Experience
- EWRB registered Line Mechanic (current and valid)
- Experience with using and navigating applications on an iPad
- Experience with distribution line construction and maintenance
- Solid understanding of industry safety standards and best practices
- Strong communication and customer interaction skills
- A team player who can also work independently
- Full NZ Class 1 driver’s licence (Class 2 or above preferred)
