Hours of Work: Minimum 30 hours guaranteed per week
Roster: The restaurant operates seven days a week. Applicants must be available to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.
Pay Rate: NZD $25.00 – $30.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience.
About the Role
HMT 26 Limited is looking for an organised and customer-focused Assistant Restaurant Manager to join The District – Restaurant & Bar. Working under the supervision and direction of the Restaurant Manager, you will assist with the day-to-day operation of the restaurant, supervise front-of-house staff during shifts and help ensure a high standard of customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Restaurant Manager in the day-to-day operation of the restaurant.
- Supervise and coordinate front-of-house staff during daily service.
- Allocate duties and monitor staff performance to ensure efficient service delivery.
- Assist with staff induction and on-the-job training.
- Support the preparation of staff rosters and shift coordination.
- Monitor customer satisfaction and resolve routine customer enquiries and complaints, escalating complex matters to the Restaurant Manager where necessary.
- Assist with stock control, stock ordering and receiving deliveries.
- Ensure compliance with food safety requirements, workplace health and safety policies, liquor licensing requirements and company procedures.
- Assist with cash handling, point-of-sale operations and end-of-day reconciliations.
- Coordinate with kitchen staff to ensure timely food preparation and smooth restaurant service.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation and customer service throughout the restaurant.
- Report operational issues to the Restaurant Manager and assist in implementing workplace procedures to improve efficiency.
Minimum Requirements
- At least 1 year of relevant work experience
OR
- NZ Register Level 2 qualification in Hospitality, Business or a related field.
Applicants must also have:
- Previous experience in a hospitality supervisory or team leader role.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Good organisational and leadership abilities.
- Ability to work effectively under the supervision of the Restaurant Manager.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays.
