Through its integration with Niagara Sawmilling Ltd, the business is uniquely positioned to optimise the entire timber value chain, from forest establishment and harvesting through to sawmilling and the production of high-quality timber products.
Log Marketing is seeking a capable and motivated person for the role of Forestry Operations Manager to join our team, overseeing and managing forestry operations for the company across Southland and Otago.
Reporting to the General Manager, this role is responsible for overseeing and coordinating forestry operations for the company along with managing existing forestry contracts with key clients. You will provide day-to-day operational leadership, ensuring that work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard, while maintaining strong relationships with contractors, clients, and stakeholders.
Key responsibilities of the role
- Manage and oversee the company’s developing forestry estate and existing forest management contracts.
- Lead environmental compliance activities, ensuring operations meet NES-CF requirements.
- Maintain and promote strong health and safety standards across all operations.
- Manage stand records and forest information systems.
- Provide oversight and guidance on ETS requirements and compliance.
- Utilise GIS mapping systems to support forest planning and management.
You may be an experienced forestry professional ready for a broader leadership role, or a graduate with relevant qualifications and the drive to develop into the position.
Our ideal candidate will have
- Proven experience and knowledge in forestry establishment and silviculture practices.
- Strong contractor management skills, with the ability to drive quality forestry outcomes.
- Competency in GIS and other digital forestry management systems.
- The skills to work independently, including being organised, motivated and disciplined.
- A collaborative team player and proactive approach.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
A solid background in forestry management, backed by practical field experience and strong technical capability will set you up for success in this rewarding and varied role.
