Tā mātou arawātea | Our Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced leader to join us on a fixed-term basis for 9 months, providing strategic direction across energy consumption and telco usage data. You'll take ownership of key supplier and meter reading contracts, drive commercial performance, and keep health and safety front and centre across our meter reading operations. This is a great opportunity to lead a capable team, strengthen industry partnerships, and help us deliver accurate, timely consumption data that our customers and business rely on.

Tāu e mahi ai | What you'll be doing:

  • Lead commercial contract negotiations and renewals for meter reading services, including AMI and manual data delivery, ensuring strong commercial outcomes and managing risk across supplier relationships.
  • Monitor and manage commercial performance against contractual SLAs, proactively identifying and mitigating risk factors across vendor and meter owner partnerships.
  • Champion health and safety for meter reading, embedding a zero harm culture across Mercury and with third-party suppliers, including incident management and escalation reporting.
  • Provide leadership across key services - meter reading and telco vendor management, meter owner partnerships, and industry stakeholder relationships - driving operational excellence and efficiency through automation and smart ways of working.
  • Oversee data reporting and compliance, working with analytics teams to monitor trends and ensure Electricity Authority compliance deliverables are met.
  • Lead and develop a team of 8-12, coaching and mentoring direct reports (including at Team Leader level), setting clear goals, and building an adaptive, customer-focused team culture.

Tāu ka kawe mai | What you'll bring:

  • Proven leadership experience, ideally with a tertiary qualification or equivalent industry experience.
  • Strong contract management and commercial negotiation experience.
  • Electricity industry knowledge.
  • A track record of managing health and safety in an operational or field-based environment.
  • Strong data analysis skills, with the ability to translate insights into action.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of complex issues and see them through to resolution.

Tā mātou e tuku nei | We offer:

  • A diverse workplace where your unique abilities and talents will be recognised and encouraged
  • The opportunities, career paths and facilities associated with working for one of New Zealand's largest multi-utility providers
  • Flexible working policy - The autonomy and trust to work flexibly from our purpose-built premises and from home, recognising the value of this flexibility in the modern world
