The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Drafting Team Leader to join our diverse NZ Drafting team.
- Location: Christchurch, New Zealand
- Employment: Full-time, Permanent, 40 hours per week (typically, Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5pm)
- Salary: NZD $90,000–$95,000 per annum (depending on skills and experience)
Reporting to the NZ Engineering & Drafting Manager and based in Christchurch NZ , the Drafting Team Leader is responsible for preparing and coordinating detailed mechanical services and HVAC drafting documentation while also providing technical leadership and day-to-day coordination of the drafting team. You will work closely with engineers, project managers, consultants and site teams to ensure accurate, high-quality project documentation is delivered in line with project requirements.
Some of the key responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Prepare detailed mechanical services and HVAC workshop, fabrication and installation drawings using AutoCAD
- Produce accurate 2D drawings and coordinated 3D models for commercial construction projects
- Interpret engineering designs, specifications and project documentation
- Coordinate drawings with architectural, structural, hydraulic and electrical disciplines
- Manage drawing revisions, document control and drafting deliverables to meet project deadlines
- Review drawings for compliance with project specifications, company standards and relevant New Zealand standards
- Support Engineers and Project Managers with technical documentation, RFIs and project coordination
- Provide technical leadership, supervision, mentoring and day-to-day support to the drafting team and drafting subcontractors
- Assist with workflow planning, quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives Manage, monitor and maintain the Engineering, Drafting & Manufacturing Schedule (EDM) and Document Change Register (DCR) across projects, liaising with Project Managers to ensure correct use
About You
Essential
- At least seven (07) years of proven experience as a Mechanical Engineering Draftsperson or HVAC Draftsperson in commercial construction
- Managerial/supervisory skills, including experience as lead draftsperson on large 10+ people projects
- Demonstrated experience preparing detailed mechanical services and HVAC workshop and construction drawings across a variety of projects
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Experience producing detailed workshop drawings and 3D coordinated models of HVAC systems & plant rooms.
- Sound understanding of commercial HVAC and mechanical services systems.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate technical documentation.
- Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams. Strong influencing and negotiation skills
Desirable
- Experience using CadDuct, Revit MEP and/or Navisworks
- BIM coordination experience Experience delivering commercial, healthcare or industrial construction projects
