Help shape the stories New Zealand is talking about. As Story Development Producer, you'll work at the heart of our newsroom-planning daily coverage, developing compelling story ideas, and coordinating news content across platforms to keep audiences informed and engaged.

The opportunity - Te tūranga

As Story Development Producer reporting to Head of Story Development and Operations you will prepare and plan stories for daily news consumption. Your focus will involve coordinating and supporting the development of news content for all platforms, organising daily news coverage, and developing story ideas.

The Story Development Producer works with reporters, managers, platform stakeholders and Bureau Editors to create a news diary and daily coverage plan, ensuring efficient use of resources and monitoring editorial developments. Additionally, the role requires developing sources within PR representatives and various agencies to harness and build on story ideas

To be successful in this role we are looking for the following

· Demonstrable story development and planning experience gained from working across multiple platforms.

· Strong editorial judgement in the development of stories, coupled with high editorial integrity.

· Demonstrated judgement in the content of news and in the skills of effective storytelling.

· Demonstrable budget management experience, coupled with the ability to manage planned story costs to ensure they stay within pre-agreed limits.

· Demonstrable knowledge of the television, digital news and current affairs industry including legislative requirements and practising codes.

· Demonstrable knowledge of operational and production processes, including using new technology.

· Maintains a high level of general knowledge and keen awareness of local, national and international events and across daily news developments.

· Advanced interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

· Exceptional attention to detail and an eye for detail.

· High level of decision-making skills; is decisive.

· Innovative and able to approach things from different angles.

· Ability to influence others, while building and maintaining relationships.

· Excellent time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, within a fast-paced environment.

· Strong organisational and prioritising skills.
