This role goes well beyond compliance — you’ll step in as a trusted expert, leading conversations, educating the industry and helping shape a safer, stronger Christchurch.
You Will
- Complete site reports with accuracy, clarity, and professionalism
- Verify construction work aligns with approved consent documentation
- Provide expert advice and help resolve building issues
- Respond to customer enquiries and support positive outcomes
- Stay current with the Building Act, regulations, and code requirements
About you | Ko Koe Tēnei
- A Regulation 18 Qualification (completed or in progress)
- At least 2 years’ BCA inspection experience
- At least 3 years’ NZ building industry experience
- Competency at National BCA Res 1 or above
- Strong judgement, technical confidence, and clear reporting skills

- Hours of work - 37.5 - 40 hours per week
- Position - Fulltime Permanent
- Location - This position is primarily based at at Te Hononga, Christchurch City Council Civic Offices - 53 Hereford Street
- Salary - The salary band for this position relates to the competency of the Inspector. Competency is achieved through assessments so Inspectors can progress at different rates. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
Level 1 - $74,394 - $82,660
Level 2 - $81,227 - $90,252
Level 3 - $96,465 $107,183
