We're looking for a Senior Project Engineer - Mechanical (to join our Generation Projects team and play a key role in shaping the future of our assets and infrastructure.

As a senior technical expert, you'll lead and coordinate mechanical engineering workstreams across a portfolio of generation projects. From design through to commissioning and close-out, you'll ensure technical integrity, manage risk, and drive high performance across long-term programmes of work.

You'll be a key contributor to Mercury's success, working closely with Technical Managers and Project Managers to deliver mechanical system interfaces and standards that support our commercial and operational goals.

  • Leadership: Provide expert guidance and value engineering to drive technical excellence and long-term asset performance.
  • Relationship Management: Build strong networks across Mercury and with external partners to support delivery across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Project Delivery: Align project goals with safety, quality, time, and cost outcomes. Lead mechanical engineering delivery from concept to commissioning.
  • Technical & Quality: Define mechanical requirements, lead quality planning, and drive innovation in system design and standards.
  • Learning & Growth: Share lessons learned and continuously adapt to support Mercury's evolving goals.

Tā mātou e kimi nei | We are looking for:

  • Degree or higher diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional membership (e.g. ENZ) desirable.
  • 5+ years' project engineering experience, ideally in electricity generation or hydro asset development.
  • Proven ability to lead technical teams and navigate complex challenges.
  • Strong relationship-building skills across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience managing engineering workstreams through staged gate frameworks.
  • Strategic thinking and planning capability.
  • Knowledge of power generation equipment and hydro systems [desirable].
  • Ability to solve technical problems from first principles.
