Scooter Technician

We are looking for technicians to join our team. Early mornings and late nights (4:00am-3:30am Rotating Shifts).

We are looking for five Scooter Technicians to join our operations team. This is an active, hands-on role supporting scooter and micromobility operations, including battery swaps, scooter repositioning, street inspections, sanitising, rider education, community events, and workplace health and safety compliance.
This is a practical, hands-on role supporting Flamingo’s electric scooter fleet. The successful candidate will help keep scooters safe, road-ready and operating reliably for daily use.
Position Details
- Location: Christchurch
- Hours: minimum 30 per week
- Hourly Rate: NZD $38.50 to $52.50 per hour
- Roster / shifts: Flexible rotating shifts, including early mornings and late nights. Shifts may be rostered across operational hours. Shifts may start as early as 4:00am or finish as late as 3:30am depending on operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair electric scooters with mechanical, electrical or operational faults.
- Assemble and configure scooters to manufacturer and company standards.
- Carry out routine maintenance, inspections and safety checks.
- Test scooters after repair to confirm they are safe and ready for use.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance and inspections.
- Maintain tools, parts and workshop areas in a clean, organised and safe condition.
- Use tools and diagnostic equipment appropriately and safely.
- Assist with preparing scooters for daily deployment and operational use.
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures at all times.
- Support the wider operations team when required.
- Inspect scooters in the field and workshop to identify safety, mechanical, electrical or operational issues.
- Swap scooter batteries and assist with preparing scooters for safe daily deployment.
- Recover damaged or faulty scooters from the field and respond to rider reports requiring technical support or follow-up inspection.
Minimum Skills & Experience Required
Applicants must have a NZ level 4 certificate qualification or overseas equivalent in engineering, electronics, electrical or mechanical trades, industrial maintenance, or another related technical field OR at least 6 months of relevant experience, including some experience in repairs and maintenance of electric scooters or bikes.
Applicants must also have:
- good attention to detail;
- the ability to follow repair and safety procedures;
- the ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
- basic record-keeping and communication skills; and
- willingness to work flexible rotating shifts, including early mornings and late nights.
Licences & Other Requirements
- Full, clean Class 1 driver’s licence (preferred)
- A forklift licence is beneficial but not essential.
- The successful applicant may be required to complete pre-employment checks, including drug and alcohol testing and a criminal history check, where relevant to the role.
