Each year, Surf Life Saving New Zealand leads beach and coastal safety across Aotearoa, patrolling over 90 locations. If you’re ready to make a real difference, this is your chance to help save lives and protect our coastlines.

Community Education Instructor - Head/Senior

Period: November 2026 – March 2027

Opportunities are available across all regions of New Zealand, with separate advertisements published for each region.

Minimum Requirements

Core Requirements (All Applicants)

  • Current SLSNZ Surf Lifeguard Award (or recognised equivalent)

  • Current Surf First Aid (or equivalent)

  • Minimum 1 season (or 1 year) patrol experience

  • 16+ years of age

  • NZ Restricted Driver Licence (or equivalent)

Additional Requirements – Paid Lifeguard

  • IRB Crew qualification

  • Meet fitness standards (swim and run requirements)

Paid Lifeguard

Life as a Paid Lifeguard is rewarding, fast-paced, and unforgettable.

You will:

  • Patrol beaches and ensure public safety

  • Respond to incidents, including rescues and first aid

  • Maintain vigilance in dynamic coastal environments

  • Train regularly with a dedicated, supportive team

From early morning trainings to long summer days on the beach, you’ll be part of a close-knit crew making a real impact.

Community Education Instructor

Help shape safer beachgoers of the future.

You will:

  • Deliver engaging, hands-on surf safety programmes

  • Teach essential water safety skills in schools and at the beach

  • Create fun, safe learning environments for children
