About the role | Mō te tūranga:
As a Specimen Collection Technician, you will play an important role in supporting the Alcohol and Other Drug Treatment Court programme by conducting professional urine and oral fluid testing services. You will work directly with participants, ensuring testing is carried out accurately, respectfully, and in accordance with strict chain-of-custody procedures.
This is a permanent part-time position of 50 hours per fortnight on a rotating roster, with shifts typically between 10:00am – 6:00pm for clinics and 7:00am – 2:00pm for residential collections, including occasional weekends and public holidays.
This is a varied role that combines specimen collection, participant engagement, and administrative responsibilities. Working across our West Auckland collection facility and other designated locations, you will contribute to the smooth operation of the programme while helping maintain the integrity and reliability of testing processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct urine and oral fluid collections in accordance with programme requirements and procedures.
- Verify participant identity and maintain accurate chain-of-custody documentation.
- Complete participant administration and maintain electronic and physical records.
- Collect and manage monitoring data, reporting any programme discrepancies as required.
- Ensure all testing, documentation, and activities comply with programme, quality, and safety standards.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with participants and key stakeholders.
- Provide general administrative support and assist with other duties as required.

To be successful in this role you need to have:
- A full, clean New Zealand Driver Licence and the flexibility to work weekends and public holidays as part of a rotating roster.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally and confidently with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
- The ability to work independently while maintaining a high level of confidentiality and professionalism when handling participant information and records.
- A willingness to travel to various locations across Auckland and Waikato as required.
- Sound computer skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to effectively manage and prioritise daily tasks.
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
