Senior Manager Operational Excellence (Risk)

This is a leadership opportunity to shape how operational excellence is delivered across ASB’s Non-Financial Risk (Line 2) function.

Reporting to the Head of Operations (NFR), you’ll lead the design and uplift of operational excellence practices, embedding consistent, scalable ways of working that enable stronger risk outcomes and a better stakeholder experience.

This role sits at the centre of risk transformation, giving you broad exposure across Line 2 and strong partnership with Line 1, Group and regulatory stakeholders.

Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities

• Define and deliver the Operational Excellence strategy, approach and roadmap across Line 2 NFR
• Establish standardised ways of working, governance rhythms and process frameworks to reduce friction
• Lead end-to-end process optimisation and simplification across risk activities
• Drive effective use of risk tooling, data and reporting (e.g. dashboards, Power BI)
• Identify and deliver automation and digitisation opportunities across risk processes
• Partner closely with framework owners and oversight teams to ensure feasibility and consistency
• Establish KPIs and governance to track delivery and outcomes
• Embed continuous improvement disciplines across teams (metrics, feedback loops, maturity)
• Provide thought leadership and coach teams on operational excellence practices

• Proven experience in operational excellence, process optimisation and operating model design
• Strong track record delivering complex change and uplift initiatives across multiple stakeholders
• Ability to translate strategy into practical, implementable solutions and roll up your sleeves when needed
• Strong data and insight capability, with experience leveraging reporting and visualisation tools
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
• A commercial mindset, focused on outcomes, efficiency and value delivery
• A continuous improvement mindset with a passion for simplifying how work gets done
