Assistant Project Manager

Archway Recruitment

About The Organisation

This established project management and advisory consultancy has built a strong reputation for delivering complex infrastructure, property, and development projects across Aotearoa.

With a focus on quality, collaboration, and long-term relationships, they partner closely with public and private sector clients, as well as iwi and hapū, to deliver outcomes that are not only commercially sound but culturally meaningful.

The Role

This is a unique opportunity for an Assistant Project Manager to join a team specialising in cultural engagement and iwi partnerships.

You will support the delivery of projects where tikanga Māori, community relationships, and cultural values are central to decision-making. This includes working alongside senior project managers, engaging with iwi stakeholders, and contributing to projects that have long-term social, cultural, and environmental impact.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include supporting project planning and reporting, coordinating stakeholders, assisting with documentation, and contributing to culturally informed project delivery.

This role will suit someone early in their career who is passionate about working at the intersection of property, infrastructure, and Te Ao Māori.

Role Requirements

We are looking for someone who brings both technical grounding and cultural awareness. You will ideally have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Architecture, Engineering, Property, Law, or a related discipline
  • 1–3 years’ experience in project management, consultancy, or the built environment (or strong internship exposure)
  • A sound understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and how they apply in a project or development context
  • Familiarity with Te Ao Māori concepts, including tikanga and te kāinga Māori (Māori approaches to land, community, and place)
  • Confidence or working knowledge of te reo Māori, particularly in professional or stakeholder settings
  • Experience working with iwi, hapū, or Māori organisations, or a genuine interest in developing this capability
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build respectful, trusted relationships
  • A proactive, organised approach and a genuine willingness to learn

What’s in it for You?

  • Exposure to meaningful projects that make a real difference to communities
  • Mentorship from experienced project managers in a collaborative consultancy environment
  • A clear pathway to develop your project management career
  • The opportunity to deepen your understanding of cultural engagement and Te Ao Māori in practice
  • A supportive and values-driven team that prioritises relationships, integrity, and growth
