Tā mātou arawātea | Our Opportunity

We're looking for a Brand Operations Manager to be the internal authority and creative engine that keeps Mercury's brand sharp, consistent, and evolving.

This role sits at the intersection of brand identity, operational excellence, and people leadership. You'll own the governance frameworks, processes, and ways of working that underpin great brand output across all touchpoints — and lead a team of designers to do their best work. If you're equally at home consulting on brand standards as you are building approval workflows, owning the governance framework that keeps Mercury's website brand-right, or managing the marketing operating budget, then this is the role for you.

Tāu e mahi ai | What you'll be doing:

  • Owning Mercury's brand identity and design output — setting best practice for how the brand evolves, stays relevant, and shows up consistently across all touchpoints
  • Building and maintaining governance frameworks, feedback and approval processes, and ways of working that enable high-quality, on-brand creative at scale
  • Leading a small team of designers, and external partners, providing clear creative direction, coaching, and an environment where the best work happens consistently
  • Acting as Mercury's internal brand consultant and educator — assessing opportunities, advising stakeholders, and lifting brand capability across the business
  • Leading brand evaluation and operations, including budget management, resourcing, and continuous improvement of brand processes
  • Driving internal brand activation — bringing the Mercury brand to life for our people, not just our customers
  • Owning Mercury's website brand governance framework — setting and maintaining standards for how the brand is expressed across all web pages, conducting regular audits, acting as brand approver for significant digital changes, and embedding brand thinking into the planning cycles of digital and content teams
  • Partnering with the wider Brand & Marketing and business teams to ensure brand identity and operational foundations support campaign and strategy delivery

Tāu ka kawe mai | What you'll bring:

  • Proven experience in brand operations, brand management, or a senior design leadership role, with a strong grasp of brand identity and governance
  • A track record of building and improving operational frameworks — approval processes, ways of working, and feedback loops that drive better creative output
  • Experience leading and developing a team of creatives, with a genuine commitment to getting the best from people
  • Strong commercial awareness and confidence managing budgets and resourcing
  • The ability to act as an internal consultant — influencing stakeholders, educating teams, and building alignment around brand standards
  • Sharp creative judgement, knowing what good looks like and how to maintain it over time
  • Experience working with digital and website teams on brand governance — including UX/UI design standards, page templates, and web content oversight — with the confidence to own brand sign-off on significant digital changes
  • A collaborative, organised approach with the credibility to be Mercury's go-to brand authority internally
