Te tūranga | The role
As we bring together six legacy councils into one organisation, communication has never been more important. We're not only building a new organisation – we’re establishing a new brand and creating trusted relationships with our communities, staff and stakeholders.
As our Communications Advisor, you will develop engaging content, support communication planning and provide practical advice to leaders across the organisation.
From internal communications and change initiatives through to community engagement, media support and digital content, you'll help ensure our communications are timely, clear and consistent.
Ō mahi | What you’ll do
Working closely with the Communication and Engagement Manager and partnering with teams across Waikato Waters you will deliver communication that builds trust, strengthens relationships and supports organisational success, by:
• Developing engaging internal and external communications across multiple channels
• Supporting leaders with communication planning, change communications and engagement activities
• Creating high-quality written, digital and visual content for a wide range of audiences
• Assisting with media enquiries, public information and Official Information Act responses
• Supporting communication and engagement with Māori communities in a culturally responsive way
• Protecting and promoting the Waikato Waters brand through clear, consistent messaging
Ō pūkenga | What you’ll bring
You're an experienced communications professional who enjoys building relationships and making complex information easy to understand. You'll be confident working with senior leaders, comfortable managing competing priorities and passionate about producing communication that makes a difference.
- Around 3–5 years' experience in communications, engagement, public affairs or a similar role
- Outstanding writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt your style for different audiences and channels
- Experience supporting communication planning, campaigns or organisational chan
- Experience working with media and coordinating Official Information Act responses
- An understanding of how to engage respectfully with Māori communities and develop culturally appropriate communications
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail
Experience within local government, infrastructure, utilities or the public sector will be highly regarded.
