Mō te tūranga ~ About the role

The Identity & Integration platform delivers reliable and innovative technology solutions at pace, leveraging our thought leadership and engineering expertise. We are responsive, proactive, and transparent. Our goal is to have 'always on' capabilities, tomorrow's tech at tomorrow's pace, make things simple, be more awesome, and embrace disruption and innovation to enable our people to innovate at pace; simply and securely.

Modern Integration is the internal platform powering service delivery across our engineering teams. We're looking for a hands-on platform engineer with strong SRE capabilities to contribute to reliability, developer experience, and platform guardrails across our Azure and CNCF-tooled Kubernetes ecosystem. In this role you will work on reusable deployment workflows, Helm-based service delivery, OPA/Rego policy-as-code controls, Kong Mesh service mesh, and secure platform integrations (Azure identity, Key Vault, ACR, and compliance checks), growing your skills alongside experienced platform engineers and consultants.

What you’ll do

  • Contribute to reliability engineering for Modern Integration platform services and delivery workflows, aligned with CNCF and cloud-native engineering practices.
  • Build and maintain reusable CI/CD templates and GitHub Actions workflows consumed by multiple service teams across the platform.
  • Support AKS cluster health, Helm release safety, rollout reliability, and recovery patterns across environments.
  • Implement OPA/Rego policy controls, Kong Mesh traffic policies, and security validation checks within delivery pipelines.
  • Contribute to SLOs, operational readiness, incident response, and platform observability improvements.
  • Collaborate with platform, security, and service teams to reduce toil and improve developer flow.

What we’re looking for

  • At least 7–10 years of hands-on SRE or platform engineering experience in cloud-hosted, containerised production environments.
  • Strong platform engineering skills — AKS, Helm, GitHub Actions, Azure Container Registry (ACR), and kubelogin in a multi-team, multi-service delivery model.
  • Practical experience with CNCF ecosystem tooling, including OPA/Rego for policy-as-code and service mesh technologies such as Kong Mesh and Gateway or similar.
  • Secure-by-default delivery experience: Azure identity, Key Vault, workload identity, service principal management, and pipeline compliance controls.
  • Experience in incident response, SLO-driven reliability improvement, and platform observability across Kubernetes workloads.

Nice to have

  • CNCF certifications (CKAD, CKS, or equivalent) and/or Azure certifications (AZ-104, AZ-400, or equivalent) are highly advantageous, as is a demonstrated track record in a CNCF-tooled platform environment.

Why this role

  • You'll contribute to a production CNCF-tooled platform — working with AKS, Helm, GitHub Actions, OPA, and Kong Mesh at scale.
  • You'll work on high-impact platform capabilities used across multiple services and domains, with real ownership of reliability and delivery quality.
  • You'll grow your platform engineering expertise in a team that values craft, standards, and continuous improvement.
