ADInstruments creates innovative software and hardware solutions for life science researchers and educators. With a team of 60 in Dunedin and almost 180 globally, we have customers worldwide and are a leader in our field.
Your Role
You’ll be providing technical leadership and architectural direction for ADInstruments' Education products, with a primary focus on cloud backend architecture, reliability and security. In this role, you will lead the architecture of our backend systems (including services, APIs, and databases) and guide the technical approaches for integrating our cloud products with desktop applications.

Skills And Experience
This position is open to experienced professionals looking to guide long-term architecture strategy. We’re excited about you because you’ll bring:
- A tertiary qualification in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant industry experience
- Strong experience architecting robust, maintainable, scalable, and secure in-production web applications, with a strong understanding of APIs, service boundaries, and integration patterns.
- Expertise in Java and TypeScript.
- Specialised knowledge of desktop-to-cloud workflows and synchronization patterns to effectively integrate web applications with desktop applications.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and mentoring skills, with a proven ability to build consensus and support the full software lifecycle in distributed systems.
- Experience working within security, privacy, compliance, or regulated product environments, alongside the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
The Following Is Desirable, But Not Required
- Experience with AWS
- Experience with spring and sql database design
