About the Auckland System Management (ASM) Alliance

The ASM is an alliance between HEB Construction, Fulton Hogan and Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency to operate and maintain Auckland's motorway network. The Alliance is expected to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders as well as suppliers to deliver exceptional outcomes for customers using the Auckland transport system. Estimated project dates are from July 2019 to June 2028.

The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a General Worker to join our Incident Response (IR) team. As General Worker, you will play a key role in the delivery of professional incident response services on the Auckland state highway and motorway network. You will work in a team to manage minor incidents and support emergency services in responding to serious incidents, effectively collaborating with both the Auckland Transport Operations Centre (ATOC) and emergency services.

What you will be doing

As General Worker, you will have a variety of responsibilities including:

  • Responding to incidents, including debris on road, crashes, animals on carriageway, asset damage, flooding and storm events, protests and emergencies.
  • Operating under the Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS Structure).
  • Assisting with identification, triage, and analysis of incidents, following protocols and escalating as appropriate.
  • Collaborating with the wider IR team to gather and document incident details.
  • Contributing to IR decision-making by providing accurate and timely information to aid in incident containment, eradication, and recovery efforts.
  • Assisting in the implementation of IR plans, playbooks, and checklists to ensure effective incident handling.
  • Ensuring all incidents are reported and recorded appropriately.
  • Restoring lanes by cleaning debris, minor breakdown assistance and maintenance activities.
  • Undertaking maintenance activities to support the safe and reliable operation of the network.
  • Engaging in IR training, exercises, and tabletop simulations to enhance skills.

ASM Incident Response is a 24-hour operation, meaning shift work is required. The successful candidate will be available to work this shift pattern on a rotating basis: Morning shift (04:30 - 13:00), Afternoon shift (12:30 - 21:00) and Night shift (20:30 - 05:00).

About You

Our ideal candidate will have the following qualifications, experience, and skills:

  • Physically Fit, able to manipulate work equipment, TTM devices and gear.
  • Class 2 licence (essential)
  • STMS Level A, B, C NP (desirable)
  • First aid trained (desirable)
  • Basic vehicular mechanical knowledge (desirable)
  • Previous experience working in the motorway corridor or roadway (desirable)
  • Customer focused.
  • Works effectively in a fast-paced team environment and handles multiple priorities in a rapidly changing IR programme.
  • Contributes to an open forum about Health and Safety.
