BG&E New Zealand has three offices (Whangarei, Auckland, and Christchurch), and the primary focus is the building and infrastructure space.

We collaborate with leading contractors, developers, architects, planners, financiers and government agencies, to create projects that make a difference to people’s lives.

Context

This role offers a lighter, punchier layout designed for a self-driven engineer who wants to lead diverse projects and make a real impact locally. You will have the opportunity to own project delivery across a broad portfolio while being supported by a highly collaborative and flexible work environment.

Missions/Main Duties

  • Lead the delivery of multi-disciplinary civil projects across land development, commercial/industrial developments, three waters, pavement, roading, and earthworks.
  • Prepare and review detailed engineering calculations, drawings, and reports, while actively supporting council approvals and consenting processes for both public and private works.
  • Manage projects to agreed budgets and timeframes, assist with fee proposals, and provide practical solutions that balance cost, constructability, and council compliance.
  • Act as a key point of contact to coordinate fluidly with clients, contractors, local councils, and external consultants to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Support the ongoing development of our civil team by mentoring junior staff, managing resource planning, and contributing directly to internal engineering standards.

Profile/Skills

We are looking for an autonomous, technically sharp professional who thrives in a consulting environment and values being part of a growing, talented team. You bring a strong understanding of local New Zealand practices and the communication skills required to build trusted relationships.

  • Hold a BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) and be a Chartered Engineer or actively tracking toward your CPEng status.
  • Bring a minimum of 4–10 years of relevant New Zealand civil consulting experience, with a solid grasp of local council processes for infrastructure and development.
  • Possess strong technical capability across civil engineering disciplines, with preferred proficiency in industry design software such as 12d, Civil 3D, or similar platforms.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make confident technical decisions, act on your own initiative, and maintain a highly proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Bring a balanced engineering perspective that successfully coordinates project budgets, programming, and constructability without compromising on quality.
  • Exhibit excellent organizational and communication skills, with a proven ability to work well under pressure, manage deadlines, and foster collaborative team relationships.
