We’re looking for a Leading Hand to join our team. You’ll help lead day-to-day site activity, operate machinery, and support safe, high-quality delivery on the ground. It’s hands-on work that matters, with real responsibility and a team that backs each other to do Good Work.

Mō te tūranga | About the role

As a Leading Hand, you’ll work side by side with your crew to keep work moving safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. This is a practical, outdoor role where you’ll support daily workflow, operate plant and equipment, and step up when needed to help guide the team on site. We’re after someone who leads by example, takes safety seriously, and enjoys getting stuck in. At Fulton Hogan, Good Work is about high standards, low ego, and people who are up for the challenge.

Ngā tino kawenga mahi | Key role responsibilities

  • Support the Supervisor with daily workflow and help keep site activity running smoothly.
  • Operate machinery, tools, and handheld equipment safely and within your training, competence, and licence requirements.
  • Assist with lifting, shifting materials, and general labouring tasks across site.
  • Check that machinery and equipment are in good working order before use.
  • Help train and guide less experienced team members in safe and correct equipment operation.
  • Take part in pre-starts, risk planning, and day-to-day safety, quality, and environmental processes.
  • Lead the maintenance patrol crews including planning route selection and using the MCA cyclic system in AWM.
  • Respond to callout works across the network at all times of the day when rostered on.

Kei te kimi mātou i tētahi e whai ana i ēnei pūkenga | We’re looking for someone with

  • A Class 2 licence as a minimum, with Wheels, Tracks and Rollers endorsements.
  • Experience and a sound understanding of traffic management requirements on site.
  • STMS Level 1 is preferred.
  • Experience with AWM is highly desirable.
  • A current First Aid certificate or willingness to obtain one with our support.
  • A strong commitment to safety and wellbeing, with the confidence to speak up and push pause when needed.
  • A practical, hands-on approach and comfort working outdoors in varying conditions.
  • A reliable, team-focused attitude with a willingness to learn, build skills, and support others.
  • Pride in doing the job properly, treating people with respect, and delivering Good Work every day.
