Site Engineer - Civil, Kā Huanui a Tāhuna
Fulton Hogan
Join us on Kā Huanui a Tāhuna in Queenstown as a Site Engineer – Civil and be part of one of the biggest infrastructure projects in the South Island.
This is a standout opportunity to build your career on a major project where the work is varied, the standards are high, and the opportunities to learn and grow are real. If you’re a capable Civil Site Engineer with around 3 years’ experience, and you’re ready to get stuck in, contribute, and keep developing, we’d like to hear from you.
You’ll work closely with supervisors, project engineers, subcontractors and site crews to help plan, set out and deliver day-to-day civil construction works safely, efficiently and to specification. While experience in pavements, granular works or surfacing would be an advantage, it’s not essential. What matters most is that you’re practical, switched on, open to feedback, and keen to build a solid long-term career in civil construction.
This is a role with genuine room to grow. The more initiative, ownership and problem-solving you bring, the more opportunity there is to expand your responsibilities and broaden your impact across the project.
Key role responsibilities
- Support the planning and delivery of daily site works, ensuring tasks are clearly defined, resourced and ready to go.
- Assist with the coordination and execution of a range of civil construction activities across active work fronts.
- Check construction works against drawings, permits, ITPs and specifications, identifying issues early and helping resolve them.
- Prepare, collect and maintain quality documentation, including QA records, test results and assigned work packs.
- Help ensure quality requirements are understood on site and that project information is captured accurately and consistently.
- Monitor productivity, quantities and progress, and provide reliable updates to the wider project team.
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, plant and site crews to keep works running smoothly and safely.
- Contribute to site safety through pre-starts, risk assessments, incident reporting and strong day-to-day safe work practices.
- Build effective working relationships with supervisors, operators and crews through clear communication and a respectful approach.
- Assist with short-term programming, methodology planning and identifying smarter ways to deliver the work.
- Working with design team to ensure issues are resolved quickly and QA requirements are met.

At Fulton Hogan, we genuinely care about the wellbeing of our people and giving them the tools and opportunities they need to succeed and grow with us.
We’re looking for someone with
- Around 3 years’ post-graduate experience in a site engineering role within heavy civil construction or major infrastructure.
- A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering.
- Sound understanding of permits, ITPs, specifications, QA requirements and site health and safety.
- Practical knowledge of quality assurance processes and the importance of collecting QA documentation properly.
- Experience across general civil works; exposure to pavements, granular works or surfacing would be beneficial but is not essential.
- A positive, grounded attitude and a genuine willingness to learn, develop and put in the hard yards when needed.
Project Scope: Kā Huanui a Tāhuna is an alliance established in November 2020 between Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) and Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, along with four design and construction companies - Beca, WSP, Downer New Zealand and Fulton Hogan. The programme of works includes Queenstown Town Centre Street Upgrades, Queenstown Town Centre Arterial – Stage 1, Lakeview Infrastructure, NZ Upgrade Programme – Queenstown Package, and Wakatipu Active Travel Network.
This exciting and challenging programme of work aims to improve safety and accessibility, enable an improved public transport system, provide more options for walking and cycling, and benefit the community and its visitors.
With delivery across Tāhuna Queenstown, each project involves upgrading underground infrastructure followed by enhancing the street to make a safer and more inviting environment for pedestrians, cyclists and people using public transport – all part of building the Queenstown Town Centre Masterplan.

You’ll be joining a team that’s low ego, hard working and aligned. Success is shared here, and the team backs each other properly. There’s plenty of experience around you to learn from, and plenty of recognition when the work goes well. We’ve had an awesome season, our processes are well ironed out, and there’s strong momentum heading into the next stage of work.
At Fulton Hogan, Good Work is how we show up for each other as much as what we deliver. We’re flat, friendly and forward moving. Titles matter less than ideas. We take the work seriously, not ourselves. And we back good people to grow, take ownership and make their mark.
