Manager – Business Advisory

nextAdvisory

No timesheets. No sole traders. No property accounting. Just real SME businesses and work that matters.

nextAdvisory is a modern Auckland accounting and advisory firm. We work with genuine, growing SME businesses who want more than compliance — they want clarity, better decisions and no surprises. We don't do timesheets, we don't chase a high-volume book of sole-trader returns, and we don't do property/LTC churn. We focus on getting things done well, for clients we actually add value to.

This is one of the most important roles in our business — a largely self-managing role, built around three core functions with quality control running through all of it:

  • Team management — leading, supporting and developing the team
  • Workflow management — keeping jobs tracked, prioritised and delivered on time
  • Tax management — owning the tax function so obligations and IRD deadlines are met accurately and on time

It will suit either an Assistant Manager ready for a genuine step up, or an experienced Manager after their next challenge in a firm that does things differently.

    What you'll be responsible for

    • Leading and developing the team, and managing the flow of work across it
    • Running our tax management function — deadlines, obligations and IRD compliance met accurately and on time
    • Quality control: reviewing the team's work to a high standard is central to this role
    • Overseeing annual accounts, GST and tax, management reports and cash flow forecasts
    • Staying in direct contact with clients on the work you're delivering
    • Getting hands-on with genuine advisory projects (more on that below)

Advisory you'll actually get to do

A lot of firms promise advisory and then it quietly becomes compliance grind. Not here. We have real, non-compliance projects ready for you to sink your teeth into — think business valuations, acquisition due diligence, cash flow forecasting and three-way models, and business planning for owners making real decisions. If your advisory experience has gaps, we'll genuinely invest in building it — the work is here and waiting.

What makes us different (and better)

    • No timesheets. We focus on getting things done — not recording six-minute units.
    • No sole traders, no property/LTC churn. Genuine SME businesses we add real value to.
    • Real advisory work, not the promise of it. Live valuations, due diligence, forecasting and planning projects.
    • A self-managing role with real backing. You run your functions, with directors who invest in you.

    What you'll bring

    • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a NZ CA firm environment — this is essential.
    • CA / CPA qualified, or well progressed
    • Proven, demonstrated review experience — quality control is a must, not a nice-to-have
    • Strong technical grounding in NZ tax, GST and financial statements
    • A high standard for accuracy and the judgement to hold the team to it
    • Confidence working autonomously and keeping a team's workflow on track
    • Xero and XPM experience (or similar)

    What you'll get

    • A competitive salary of $110k–$140k, depending on experience
    • No timesheets, and a culture built on getting good work done
    • A largely self-managing role with directors who back you
    • Genuine investment in your advisory development
    • A modern Auckland team, with flexibility around how and where you work
