We’re looking for a skilled Maintenance Operator to join our Wellington Transport Alliance (WTA) team. Predominately Night Shift, we are looking for Maintenance Operators in the Wairarapa, Kapiti and Wellington Region.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
This role is essential to the successful delivery of our maintenance and operations programme. You will undertake cyclic maintenance duties, including repairing and replacing corridor assets such as barriers, signs, pavements, and drainage, as well as carrying out pothole repairs and sweeping operations.
By joining our team, you will take a hands on role in maintaining the safety, efficiency, and reliability of the State Highway network, helping us to deliver a State Highway network we are proud of.
Night shift: Sunday to Thursday, generally between 7pm and 7am, In addition to this, you will take part in pre start meetings and tailgates, operate plant and machinery while supporting labouring tasks as directed, and perform essential equipment checks and maintenance to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities
Carry out routine and reactive maintenance across the network, including but not limited to:
- Street sign repair, cleaning and replacement
- Wire rope and guardrail maintenance
- Pothole repairs and minor surface works
- Vegetation and tree maintenance
- Painting and general asset upkeep
- Rubbish and debris removal
- Operate maintenance vehicles, plant, and tools safely and effectively
- Maintain accurate records of completed work and activities using RAMM (AWM)

- Full, clean driver’s licence (required)
- Full, class 2 licence (preferrable)
- Relevant licences or endorsements (e.g. traffic management, machinery operation) desirable
- Basic understanding of maintenance practices across civil/infrastructure environments
- Experience in infrastructure, civil, or general maintenance work (preferred)
- Practical, hands-on approach with the ability to perform a variety of physical tasks
- Ability to use tools, machinery, and maintenance equipment safely
- Strong awareness of health and safety practices
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
