Te Au Reka is a once-in-a-generation programme transforming how people access and experience justice in Aotearoa New Zealand. We are replacing highly manual, paper-based processes with a modern digital case management system, making court and tribunal services simpler, faster, and more accessible.
This complex, system-wide programme is delivered in partnership with the judiciary and spans the entire justice sector. It requires clear, consistent, and effective communication to support change at scale. Joining Te Au Reka means playing a key role in delivering communications that enable understanding, readiness, and successful adoption of new ways of working.
Te Haeata/The Opportunity
As Senior Advisor, Communications, you will lead the design and delivery of change communications that support the successful implementation of Te Au Reka.
This role is focused on crafting clear, audience-centred messaging and producing high-quality communications materials that help people understand what is changing, why it matters, and what they need to do differently.
You will partner with programme teams and senior leaders to translate complex change into simple, compelling narratives, and deliver practical communications and engagement products that build awareness, readiness, and adoption.
This is a hands-on role requiring someone who can move confidently from strategy through to execution. You will be developing plans, shaping messages, crafting materials and delivering communications across multiple channels.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic communications and advice
- Develop and deliver end-to-end change communications plans aligned to programme milestones and release activities
- Create and maintain clear, consistent messaging frameworks that support understanding, readiness, and adoption
- Ensure communications are timely, targeted, and aligned with change impacts across different audiences
Communication and engagement
- Translate complex programme and technical information into clear, concise, audience-focused communications
- Lead the development of key messages, narratives, and storytelling approaches for change initiatives
- Work with external stakeholders and peak bodies to deliver articles and content through their channels and networks e.g. New Zealand Law Society
- Produce high-quality communications materials, including:
- Staff updates and announcements
- Leader messaging and briefing packs
- FAQs, intranet content, and guidance materials
- Change artefacts and engagement collateral
Stakeholder and leader support
- Partner with workstream leaders and programme teams to shape and deliver effective communications and engagement
- Provide trusted advice on how to communicate change clearly and confidently
- Support leaders with talking points, presentations, and communication tools
Engagement and adoption
- Design communications that build awareness, drive engagement, and support behaviour change
- Align communications with wider engagement and change activities to maximise impact
- Monitor feedback and adjust messaging to improve effectiveness and reach
Communications quality and consistency
- Ensure a consistent voice, tone, visual identity and narrative across all Te Au Reka communications
- Uphold high standards of clarity, accuracy, and accessibility in all content
- Contribute to continuous improvement of communication approaches and products
Ō Pūkenga/Skills And Experience
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- At least five years' experience in senior communications roles, ideally within large-scale change or transformation programmes
- Proven experience delivering change communications, including message development and content creation
- Exceptional writing skills, with the ability to distil complex information into clear, engaging content
- Strong experience producing a wide range of communications materials and artefacts
- Excellent stakeholder skills and the ability to partner with and influence leaders
- Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to deliver at pace in a dynamic environment
- Sound judgement and attention to detail
You'll Ideally Also Have
- Experience supporting digital or business transformation programmes
- Experience working in complex public sector or government environments
- Knowledge of the justice sector (advantageous but not essential)
Utu ā-tau / Salary
The salary range for this role is $99,208 – $135,539. Appointing salary will be based on skills and experience.
