Mō te tūranga | About the role
- Working from your main base in Horotiu, with coverage extending from Pokeno down to Lake Taupo, you will be providing the “voice” of the flood protection assets and the catchments they service. We have an ageing asset base, so you need understand the health of the flood system to balance risk vs. cost when recommending actions, so we provide the best outcomes to our communities.
- Coordinate and deliver the asset inspection and performance monitoring programmes, collating results, and working with the operations and capital teams to ensure the right corrective works are prioritised and delivered.
- Provide technical support during storm and other emergency events, to enable correct responses to what is happening in the field to mitigate risk of life and property.
- Contribute to the development of strategies and long-term plans and oversee the implementation of improvement initiatives.
- Own the asset data for your area, providing advice to community groups, capital, and operational programmes.
- Build positive relationships with the local teams, community groups, contractors, other tertiary authorities, and landowners.

- You enjoy both assessing assets, determining what’s wrong, and coordinating with others to get them fixed.
Mō ngā pūkenga | Qualifications and experience
- Geotechnical or Civil engineering qualification, and experience using it to provide technical expertise.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in engineering.
- Experience working with drainage networks, especially in rural areas.
- Willingness to work outside of “normal” work hours (i.e. summer work inspection and work programmes will be outdoors and determined by the tides & weather) and be outside during storm events to provide on the ground inspections of assets and technical support.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
