About The Role
Our Building Compliance team plays a vital role in ensuring buildings across Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai Lower Hutt are safe and meet legislative requirements.
We’re seeking a proactive Compliance Officer to respond to complaints, carry out inspections, and deliver compliance and enforcement activity under the Building Act 2004. This is a varied role covering Building Warrants of Fitness (BWoF), compliance schedules, dangerous, affected and insanitary buildings, swimming pools and earthquake-prone buildings.
In This Role, You Will
- Investigate complaints and urgent compliance issues
- Carry out inspections and issue statutory notices where required
- Support the effective management of the BWoF regime
- Maintain accurate registers for pools and earthquake-prone buildings
- Work with building owners, engineers and industry professionals to achieve safe outcomes
- Keep clear and accurate compliance records and contribute to continuous improvement
About You
You’re a practical and customer-focused compliance professional who enjoys working in the field, applying legislation, and supporting safe outcomes for the community.
You Will Bring
- A Reg 18 or NZQA Level 4 Certificate in Building Regulation (or an equivalent) or working towards this
- Experience with building specified systems (e.g. fire safety)
- Strong judgement, organisation skills and confidence managing competing priorities
- Excellent communication skills and a professional approach with the public and industry
- A current clean driver’s licence
- Experience in building compliance, BWoF audits, pools or earthquake-prone buildings is preferable
