This is a full-time position of 40 hours per week.

The remuneration range for this role is $86,230 to $121,736 (including KiwiSaver) depending on skills and experience. We anticipate appointing around the midpoint.

The opportunity

In this role, you’ll contribute to strategic planning, support key infrastructure initiatives, and help ensure investment decisions are informed by robust data, analysis, and future growth needs.

  • Contribute to developing and maintaining long-term strategic plans (10–30+ years)

  • Analyse data, trends, and risks to inform planning and investment decisions

  • Support the establishment and coordination of strategic infrastructure initiatives

  • Align infrastructure planning with growth strategies and land-use plans

  • Deliver clear, insightful reporting to support organisational decision-making

About you

To be successful in this role you will bring:

  • A positive attitude with the ability to focus on long term outcomes when work shifts or stalls

  • Structured, long-term thinking with the ability to connect short-term actions to future benefits

  • Strong interest in systems thinking, strategic planning, and delivering long-term community and environmental outcomes

  • Collaborative approach with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and build effective relationships

  • A background in planning, economics, or engineering (e.g. Town Planning, Economics, or water engineering)

Wellington Water Ltd is the professional water services provider across Greater Wellington and South Wairarapa. Our job is to provide safe and healthy drinking water, collect and treat wastewater, and ensure the stormwater network is well managed. We’re a multi-council owned entity, tasked to manage the infrastructure and deliver water services to our communities. From 1 July 2026, a new chapter in water services begins. Tiaki Wai will take over responsibility for providing Three Waters Services to approximately 433,000 residents across the Wellington metro regions.

Tiaki Wai will own the water assets it operates giving it greater independence to manage and improve water services for current and future communities, Wellington Water employees will transition into this new council-owned entity.
