Policy Analyst / Senior Policy Analyst

New Zealand Government

Do you want to be at the centre of policy and financial decision-making?

Te Tai Ohanga The Treasury is accepting expressions of interest from analysts and advisors seeking a new chapter in their career. We have exciting opportunities available in teams that provide a fiscal view of social policy issues. Build experience in an area and in an institution that will remain invaluable to you throughout your career.

O pumanawa | About You

We are seeking candidates from a wide range of academic, cultural and social backgrounds and experiences. Diversity in experience is a real strength, working at the Treasury is not all number-crunching and rigidly applying accounting standards (although that might be the highlight for some!) At the heart of it, our work is about lifting the living standards for all New Zealanders. We are looking for social and savvy individuals who are keen to work on long-term, end-to-end projects, not least of which is the annual Budget, the biggest financial event of the year!

Ultimately, this is a role where your advice focuses on how one third of government expenditure can get bang for buck. Experience with the social sector, public finance policy, and/or Budget processes would be an advantage but is not essential. If you have been successful in working with others and using analytical skills to find constructive ways through complex policy and financial problems, and you understand how to build positive relationships with external stakeholders, then we would like to hear from you. If politics, finance, economics, and current events make you tick, this is the job for you.

For Analyst applications you must have a minimum of 18 months career experience. For Senior Analyst applications you must have a minimum of five years career experience.

Specific expertise is not a requirement we will support you to learn in the role. Still not sure? Reach out for a korero, the coffee is on us!

Korero mo te turanga | About the Role

An effective and efficient state sector and Crown balance sheet is at the heart of delivering higher living standards and wellbeing for New Zealanders. We are looking for Analysts or Senior Analysts to join the Public Sector Performance division, with roles in multiple teams. There are multiple opportunities to work across several exciting portfolios, including the health sector, education, justice, welfare, and others. The particulars of the work programme will be relative to the skills and experience of the candidate.

You will work alongside senior representatives from other agencies and interact frequently with the Minister of Finance's office. You will also provide high-impact independent, written and oral, advice to the Minister of Finance on proposals going to Cabinet for decisions.
