The Three Waters Unit is responsible for delivering sustainable water services to the community, including the supply and treatment of drinking water.

To ensure water services are provided in a safe, reliable, effective and efficient manner, we are looking for an Operations Liaison Engineer to lead the operational engagement between the Operations & the Capital Delivery team in a 2.5 year fixed term capacity.

You’ll act as the key bridge between operations and capital project teams, ensuring smooth delivery from design through to handover and beyond.

On Any Given Day, You Might

  • Align with project teams on priorities, risks, and upcoming works
  • Translate operational needs into practical project solutions
  • Work with operations teams to plan access, outages, and site readiness
  • Manage contractors on-site and ensure work is delivered safely
  • Balance community service delivery alongside project objectives
  • Support multiple projects at once, each at different stages
  • Navigate expectations and find workable solutions when priorities differ
  • Ensure projects are fit-for-purpose before operational takeover

You’ll thrive in a reactive, fast-moving environment, where your ability to problem-solve and communicate clearly is essential.

We’re looking for someone who can confidently operate across both technical and people environments. You’ll bring with you

  • 5+ years’ experience in water/wastewater operations or similar infrastructure
  • Experience working with or alongside capital project delivery teams
  • Strong understanding of design, construction, and operational requirements
  • Proven ability to build relationships and influence across teams
  • Confidence managing contractors and on-site activities
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and keep things moving

  • Hours of work - 37.5 - 40 hours per week
  • Position - 2.5 year fixed term
  • Location - This position is primarily based at Christchurch Wastewater Treatment Plant - Shuttle Drive, Bromley
  • Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $88,003 to $97,781 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
