GIS Analyst

Greater Wellington

We're looking for a GIS Analyst to join our dedicated and friendly ICT Data and Information Team. This is a full-time, fixed term role through to May 2028, based in our modern Cuba Street office in Wellington.

About the role

You will provide geospatial data analysis, develop mapping applications and tools, deliver support and training to enable users of spatial data to derive the best value from Greater Wellington's GIS systems. They will also need to ensure Greater Wellington's geospatial data is able to meet a wide and growing variety of needs.

The GIS Analyst is part of the Data and Information Management team. This team provides GIS services, data analytics and information management expertise. We give direction and support, to meet the Greater Wellington's business requirement for advanced analytical capabilities - which can provide significant opportunities for automation and efficiency gains across the business.

This role is an opportunity to work as part of an established team who manage Greater Wellington's digital library of geographic maps, providing geospatial data analysis, developing mapping applications and tools, and deliver support and training to enable users to derive the best value from GIS data sets.

Skills and experience required

  • Tertiary qualification in Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, Geography, Surveying, Engineering, or related field and/or demonstrable competency in geospatial data analysis work in similar sized organisations.
  • Proficient with analytical programming languages such as SQL, R or Python.
  • Proven experience with the wider Esri software suite including hands‑on experience with ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro.
  • Knowledge and hands‑on administration of ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online.
  • An understanding of the geospatial integration tool FME.
  • Strong quantitative skill set and an analytical mindset.
  • Demonstrable attention to detail and good problem-solving skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Capable written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write documents that are clear, concise and in plain language.

The remuneration for this position, inclusive of all benefits, is $79,289 to $118,920, with a midpoint of $97,203. Starting remuneration will depend on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
