Te whiwhinga mahi - Our opportunity

This is a unique opportunity to build your career in tax within a large, complex and purpose-driven organisation that plays a critical role in shaping New Zealand’s housing outcomes. As the Taxation Accountant, you’ll be part of a high-performing Finance function and contribute to ensuring Kāinga Ora meets its obligations under New Zealand’s Revenue Acts across a diverse and evolving business.

In this role, you’ll gain broad, hands-on experience across the full tax compliance and reporting lifecycle — from PAYE, GST and FBT through to provisional and annual income tax, as well as internal tax reporting and financial statement support. You’ll work with real data, real deadlines, and complex transactions across property development, tenancy activities and large-scale operations, building deep practical expertise in applying tax rules in a commercial environment.

You’ll also have the opportunity to step beyond compliance into advisory, partnering with business units to provide tax guidance on transactions, business cases and operational decisions. Working closely with the tax team, senior leaders, external advisors and Inland Revenue, you’ll develop strong stakeholder skills and build confidence in communicating technical concepts in a clear and practical way.

Supported by experienced tax professionals, you’ll build capability in a role that balances technical rigour with business partnership, while contributing to high-quality tax outcomes that support broader organisational impact.

  • Strong attention to detail with a proactive approach. You take pride in delivering accurate, high-quality work within a customer-focused environment. You recognise when to pause and seek guidance, while still maintaining momentum - demonstrating initiative and taking responsibility for your own development.
  • Disciplined Delivery with Continuous Improvement. You understand that consistency is critical in tax work. You are organised and able to manage your time effectively to ensure IRD filing deadlines are consistently met with high-quality, accurate work. You’re comfortable working to established processes and instructions, while also maintaining a curious, improvement-focused mindset - bringing ideas forward constructively and checking in with the team before making changes to ensure alignment
  • A Growth Mindset with a Consistent and Supportive Approach. You bring a genuine desire to learn, develop, and continuously improve your capability over time. You’re open to feedback and use it constructively, recognising that growth comes from both challenges and successes. • A Strong and Thoughtful Communicator. You communicate clearly, professionally, and with purpose—adapting your style to suit your audience, whether working with teammates or engaging with stakeholders.
