Operations Manager

The HR Hub NZ

Do you like being out on the job? Are you the kind of person who gets things moving, backs their team, and rolls their sleeves up when it counts? Keep reading, this could be your next move.

Hunter Ag Services is a busy agricultural contracting business built on quality work and solid, long-term client relationships. We specialise in cultivation and spraying, and we’re looking for the right person to take the lead on our day-to-day operations.

About The Role

This is a working leadership role with real responsibility. You’ll be the main link between the crew and the director, keeping operations running smoothly while staying hands-on in the field. You’ll carry genuine accountability for the team, the equipment, client relationships, and health and safety standards across the business.

It’s a role that suits someone who leads by example. Long days, weather changes, and shifting priorities are part of it and so is the satisfaction of running a tight operation and delivering quality work.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading, supporting, and developing the team; including onboarding, day-to-day oversight, and performance
  • Organising daily schedules, job assignments, and machinery logistics
  • Acting as the key contact between the crew and management
  • Building and maintaining relationships with clients and contractors
  • Overseeing health and safety compliance across the team, including inductions, hazard management, and incident reporting
  • Operating agricultural machinery (cultivation and spraying) when needed
  • Keeping on top of maintenance schedules, pre-operation checks, and equipment readiness
  • Accurately recording application data including chemical usage, field conditions, and seeding and fertiliser rates
  • Managing purchasing within delegated authority and keeping management informed

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience leading or supervising a team in a practical, outdoor environment
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • A hands-on leader who is comfortable working alongside the crew, not just directing from the sidelines
  • Background in ag, contracting, or a similar industry
  • Cultivation experience with the ability to read land and crop conditions, anticipate issues, and understand what is needed at each stage
  • Mechanical know-how or solid machinery experience
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and adapt to changing conditions
  • Full clean NZ driver's licence

It’d be a bonus if you also have:

  • Class 2 licence
  • Growsafe or spraying experience
  • Health and Safety knowledge or relevant training

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay based on experience
  • Vehicle and phone provided (for the right person)
  • A straightforward, supportive team that gets on and gets the job done
  • Long-term opportunity with a stable, well-regarded business
