Based at our Ngā Kete Wānanga marae Ōtara, we are seeking a collaborative team member with manaakitanga and knowledge for this rewarding mahi that assists our ākonga to achieve their aspirations.
This role is not your everyday teaching role, it has plenty of variety and its main purpose is to extend MIT’s reach to fulfil commitments to Māori language revitalisation and community engagement. Reporting to our Māori Academic manager, this role is responding to the growing need for Mātauranga Māori in our community of employers and ākonga of MIT. The Māori Education Team, Te Tari Mātauranga Māori (TTMM), have developed and delivered Mātauranga Māori training (on campus and on-line) for ākonga, businesses, organisations and communities and due to their success, we are seeking a full-time permanent Teacher to join the team and deliver training.
There is variety plus drawing upon your Te Reo Māori, your understanding of Mātauranga Māori, your experience with Tikanga Māori and your ability to work under Kaupapa Māori. You could be teaching courses online or on campus, marketing our programmes in the community, networking with key stakeholders throughout the region or supporting the provision of Tikanga Māori across the organisation.
Kaiako Responsibilities
- Planning, development, delivery, and assessment of TTMM courses across a wide range of academic programmes within our Schools and our community programmes.
- Working collaboratively with the team to preparing and delivering a full suite of Cultural Competency Training programmes supporting kaimahi and external stakeholder capability-building.
- Supporting the DCE Māori, Māori Academic manager and the TTMM Team with advising, guiding, informing and educating about Tikanga Māori processes as they happen at our Ngā Kete Wānanga marae, across the organisation and ensuring that our responsibilities to Te Tiriti o Waitangi are being met.

Ideally you will bring
- Confidence and experience in Te Reo & Mātauranga Māori
- Experience teaching
- Passion to share your knowledge
- Confidence in written and spoken Te Reo Māori
- Current Full New Zealand Driver’s License
