As a Senior Lawyer in the ANZ Legal Team, you’ll partner with our ANZ business, risk and product teams to deliver high-quality, commercially pragmatic legal advice. This role includes supporting the New Zealand Markets and Insights business teams as well as the broader ANZ Institutional team and across the ANZ business. You will help manage legal risk, strengthen governance, and enable confident decision-making.
Working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, you’ll build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders while providing clear, outcome-focused guidance to support ANZ’s strategic priorities.
Role Location: Auckland/Wellington
Role Type: Permanent, Full time
Role Hours: 37.5hrs per week, Monday to Friday

In this role, you will:
Deliver legal services to ANZ Institutional and wider business units leveraging a range of internal and external resources
Provide high quality, commercially appropriate, timely and cost-effective legal support to the ANZ business, providing clear, succinct, pragmatic and plain-language advice
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure ANZ’s interests are well represented
Provide expert legal and corporate governance advice that mitigates risk and supports sound, strategic decision-making
Stay across legislative and regulatory developments while actively managing risk, contributing to risk forums, and supporting process improvements for the ANZ business and wider ANZ NZ legal team
Work across the ANZ legal team on joint projects impacting ANZ as a whole.

To grow and be successful in the role, you will ideally bring the following:
Demonstrated experience in banking and financial services law, with the ability to provide commercially pragmatic, high-quality legal advice.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, plain-language guidance.
Proven ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
Solid understanding of legal risk and governance, with the ability to balance regulatory requirements and strategic business objectives.
A proactive mindset, staying across legislative and regulatory developments and contributing to continuous improvement.
Strong organisational skills, with the ability to work at pace and engage confidently with senior stakeholders in a dynamic environment.
Capability to develop procedures and facilitate training to help the ANZ business understand and navigate the legal environment.
