He Kōrero Mō Te Tūranga | The Role

Are you a dynamic and experienced clinical leader with a passion for making a meaningful difference in the lives of people with forensic mental health needs? We have an exciting opportunity for a permanent full-time role based in Tawa, Wellington. Read on to find out more!

What you'll be doing

  • Provide Clinical Leadership & Service Management – Lead and manage the service to achieve positive outcomes for tangata whaiora. Foster a high-performing team culture through effective leadership, coaching, supervision, and professional development.
  • Drive Collaborative Service Planning – Partner closely with colleagues, stakeholders, and District Managers to plan, develop, and deliver services that meet organisational goals and support recovery-focused outcomes.
  • Lead and Support Your Team – Provide day-to-day leadership, guidance, oversight, and coordination for a team of up to 10 kaimahi, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, person-centred support.
  • Support Tangata Whaiora – Work alongside people with complex forensic mental health needs, supporting their recovery journeys and facilitating safe transitions from forensic inpatient settings into the community.
  • Provide Specialist Clinical Consultation – Offer expert clinical advice and consultation to a range of professionals and services, including GPs, clinical mental health teams, and community organisations. Support effective navigation of the forensic mental health pathway under the Criminal Procedure (Mentally Impaired Persons) Act 2003.
  • Champion Best Practice – Apply your clinical expertise, knowledge, and professional judgement to ensure the delivery of high-quality, recovery-focused services that make a meaningful difference for tangata whaiora and their whānau.

He kōrero mōu | About You

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification (Level 7 or above) in management, nursing, social services, psychology, or a related field
  • At least one year experience in a leadership or management role
  • At least two years’ experience in mental health, addiction, disability, or social services
  • Strong leadership capability, including performance development and operational oversight
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, fluent in English
  • Experience working with diverse communities and applying client centred service planning
  • Must hold and maintain First Aid certification including CPR (or be willing and able to complete this)
  • A full, clean NZ driver licence
