Digital Systems Engineer

Top Energy

The Top Energy Group operates throughout the Far North delivering geothermal electricity generation and electricity network operations. We are enabling Northland to contribute to the decarbonisation challenge by transforming the Top Energy Group into a technology-enabled energy company that generates and facilitates two-way energy flow between renewable energy generators and consumers.

About the role

As a Digital Systems Engineer, you'll design, build and own the infrastructure powering our IT and operational technology systems — from renewable generation and real-time control through to day-to-day operations. In a small, high-performing team, you'll have direct influence on the systems that keep the Far North's energy network running.

The role is based in Kerikeri and will report to the Digital Systems Manager.

About you

You will bring at least 5 years' experience designing and supporting network and infrastructure environments, ideally across both IT and operational technology.

You enjoy working in environments where reliability matters and systems have real-world impact. You are a practical problem solver who can balance performance, security and operational needs.

Key areas of focus

  • Design and evolve mission-critical network infrastructure supporting generation and distribution
  • Integrate and support converged IT/OT systems (SCADA, telemetry, automation, real-time asset systems)
  • Improve the cyber resilience of operational environments across the network
  • Lead delivery of network and infrastructure upgrades
  • Contribute to future network architecture, including distributed energy and two-way power flows

Additional skills and experience

  • IP networking: routing, switching, firewalls, SD-WAN
  • Virtualisation and systems administration (VMware, Linux/Windows)
  • Experience with OT, SCADA or industrial environments (preferred)
  • Full NZ Driver's Licence (essential)

Why join us?

  • Fully subsidised Health Insurance for you and your family
  • Access to our online wellness programme, plus 1 paid annual Wellness Day per year
  • A relocation package and short-term accommodation offered if you are moving regions
  • Enhanced paid Parental Leave Policy

We have a Drug and Alcohol Workplace Policy. Before any offer of employment is made, the short-listed candidate(s) will be required to undertake a pre-employment medical check which will include a drug and alcohol test.
