The Wellness Support Specialist provides direct mental health care and case management to students. Coordinates training and educational outreach related to peer support, wellness, and basic needs. Reports to the Dean of Students.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Provides trauma-informed individual and group mental health counseling to students.
- Engages in assessment and crisis intervention of students.
- Develops relationships with community mental health providers and refers students for off-campus treatment as necessary.
- Serves as a facilitator for Suicide Prevention Training for Gatekeepers, Talk Saves Lives, and Mental Health First Aid.
- Presents mental health training to community members on evenings and weekends as needed.
- Provides linkage and referrals of students to on campus resources and community partners to support basic need insecurities.
- Manages Peer Support Programs.
- Manages day-to-day operations of campus career clothing closets and/or campus food pantries..
- Follows up with students to ensure they have utilized resources and are persisting in their academic classes at the College.
- Handles highly sensitive information and keeps up-to-date case management records in Maxient and Titanium databases.
- Develops support plans to address the needs of students of concern.
- Participates in outreach programs, activities, and events related to health, wellness, and prevention initiatives for students, faculty, and staff.
- Tracks and reports data related to mental health counseling services.
- Serves on the College Behavioral Intervention Team (Pirates CARE Team).
- Responsible for knowing and conforming to all safety practices and regulations that apply to this specific area and position. Unsafe conditions should be reported to the immediate supervisor and to the Pensacola State College Police Department/Public Safety.

- Evening and weekend hours as necessary.
- In-district and overnight travel.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds of food pantry supplies.
Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an institution that holds accreditation recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and approved by the College with a master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or marriage and family therapy, and documented evidence of at least 150 hours of direct client contact. Successful results of a criminal background check are required.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with post-secondary students; Experience providing mental health training for community members.
NOTE: The awarding of the master’s degree is a non-negotiable condition of employment.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position must be able to lift at least 25 pounds to perform job duties of the campus food pantries. Annual Salary: $45,000.00
