Te whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

You will be joining our team as a Planner or Senior Planner, based in our Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, Pōneke Wellington or Ōtautahi Christchurch office, working with a local team of planning experts as part of a nationwide team of 60. As a member of our tight‑knit team, you’ll work on a diverse range of exciting projects alongside clients including Watercare, Auckland Council, Auckland Transport, Wellington City Council, Tiaki Wai, Christchurch City Council, Transpower, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, Ministry of Education and renewable energy providers and industrial clients, amongst others. While these are our primary locations, we’re open to hearing from talented planners based elsewhere across Aotearoa New Zealand.

In this role, you’ll bring your technical expertise, collaborative mindset and client focus to deliver high-quality planning advice and project outcomes. Whether you’re building your career or stepping into a more senior position, you’ll have the opportunity to work on complex, multidisciplinary projects, strengthen client relationships and play a key role in delivering quality outcomes on community‑shaping projects across Aotearoa New Zealand.

  • A degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Planning or a related discipline, and NZPI membership (full membership or working towards this for Senior Planner)
  • 4+ (Planner) to 7+ (Senior Planner) years’ experience in environmental and urban planning
  • Sound knowledge of the RMA with practical experience in statutory and strategic planning, including regional consenting.
  • A collaborative style, experience working in a team environment and developing others
  • Commercial awareness and client-focused approach
  • Excellent communication and written skills and a broad understanding of disciplines related to planning matters: you will be able to engage effectively with clients, mana whenua, stakeholders and the public.
  • Previous experience in consultancy would be desirable, and experience working in the water, transport, and energy markets, or with industrial and government clients, would be an advantage.
