Quality Control Lab Technician
Hynds Pipe Systems Limited
Remote
If you're someone who takes pride in getting things right, this role is for you. Based at our Whanganui site and reporting to the Quality Manager, you'll be at the heart of what we do — making sure every pipe and joint that leaves our facility meets the highest quality and environmental standards. No two days are the same: you'll move between hands-on lab testing, precision measurement, and working closely with our production and quality teams to solve problems and drive real improvements. Your attention to detail will directly impact the products that infrastructure projects across New Zealand depend on.
What You'll Be Doing
- Post-production measurement and testing of pipes and joints, including hydrostatic pressure testing, thermal stability, reversion, and butt weld/fitting joint testing
- Operating measuring equipment such as vernier callipers, micrometres, and pressure and temperature gauges
- Conducting materials composition testing (OIT)
- Documenting results and preparing client reports
- Calibrating and verifying measurement equipment
- Identifying opportunities to improve testing processes
- Supporting team training and identifying skills gaps on the factory floor
- Contributing to quality improvement projects
What We're Looking For
- Crane operation experience
- Ability to manage medium-weight manual handling (carrying and loading samples)
- Competent computer skills, including use of laboratory test software
- A current driver's licence
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work
- Good communication skills and a team-first attitude
- Desirable (but not essential): Forklift licence and operation experience.
Benefits
- Health insurance (subject to eligibility criteria)
- Access to company partner discounts
- Employee Assistance Programme
