Data & Communications Technician

Aotea Communications is a specialist department of Aotea Electric Auckland Ltd. We are a progressive electrical business delivering data & communications, electrical contracting, servicing, and interior solutions. We are seeking an experienced Data and Communications Technician to join our team.

The Role

You’ll be responsible for delivering structured cabling solutions, Wi-Fi installations, fibre splicing and testing, as well as the service and maintenance of communication systems. You’ll support project delivery from start to finish across a range of projects and service work.

This is a hands-on role where you will work independently, take ownership of your work, and contribute to safe, efficient, and compliant project delivery, with opportunities to step up on site.

What You’ll Bring

• Experience installing structured cabling to plans and standards
• Ability to carry out testing, commissioning, and basic fault finding
• Strong attention to detail and accurate job documentation
• A high standard of workmanship and pride in site presentation
• Willingness to support trainees and contribute to team productivity
• Ability to work with Project Managers to keep jobs on track
• Strong communication skills
• Competent knowledge of installation methods, materials, tools, and testing
• NZ Certificate in Data Cabling (Level 3) or equivalent practical experience
• Current Site Safe Passport (or ability to obtain)
• Full NZ Class 1 driver licence
• Flexibility with working hours when required
