Platform Engineer (DevOps)
Whip Around
Platform Engineer (DevOps)
Build the systems behind the software. Some engineers love building features. Others love understanding how everything works underneath. If you enjoy automation, infrastructure, CI/CD, debugging weird problems, and making systems run better this role might be for you.
At Whip Around, our platform powers products used by fleet businesses across the world. We run on AWS, CI/CD pipelines, observability tooling, and modern engineering workflows that our product teams rely on every day.
We’re looking for a Platform Engineer (DevOps) to help us improve the systems that support our engineering teams and products.
You might already be in DevOps. Or you might be a software engineer who’s always gravitated toward infrastructure, deployment pipelines, automation, or developer tooling. Maybe you’re in cloud support and want to move closer to engineering. Maybe you’re a full stack engineer who secretly enjoys fixing CI/CD more than shipping UI.
If any of that sounds familiar, keep reading.
Requirements
What you’ll actually do
You’ll work closely with experienced engineers to help keep our environments healthy, deployments smooth, and platform tooling continuously improving.
That means things like:
- Supporting AWS environments across QA, staging and production
- Improving CI/CD pipelines and build processes
- Monitoring systems, troubleshooting issues, and improving reliability
- Helping engineers when environments or deployments aren’t behaving
- Contributing to platform improvements across security, performance and cost
- Building confidence working across modern cloud infrastructure and developer tooling
You’ll probably enjoy this role if you
Like understanding how systems work.
Enjoy automation.
Have a habit of fixing annoying problems.
And have some experience or exposure to things like:
- AWS or cloud computing fundamentals
- CI/CD pipelines or GitHub Actions
- Linux, scripting, terminals or networking fundamentals
- Infrastructure, observability, automation or developer tooling
- Side projects, GitHub repos, Raspberry Pi setups, homelabs, or generally tinkering with technical things
A note on cloud foundations.
This role sits close to the infrastructure that powers our product, so we’re looking for people with a solid foundation in cloud computing concepts.
That could come from:
- AWS certifications or coursework
- University papers focused on cloud, distributed systems or infrastructure
- Personal projects using AWS or cloud tooling
- Demonstrable understanding of how modern cloud systems work
You do not need years of industry experience.
In fact, we’d often prefer someone with strong fundamentals and curiosity over someone who’s picked up habits without understanding the theory underneath.
We use AI heavily in our engineering workflows. Not as a gimmick. As part of how we work every day.
You’ll learn how we use AI to investigate issues, improve systems, move faster, and become a better engineer — while still understanding what’s happening under the hood.
If you’re excited by the idea of AI helping engineers do better work, you’ll probably enjoy it here.
Our stack
AWS (ECS, Lambda, RDS, S3, SQS), Docker, CloudFormation, GitLab CI, Datadog, CloudWatch, Sentry, Laravel and React.
No, we don’t expect you to know all of that on day one.
