Requirements

Make an impact

The Data Engineer is responsible for implementing solutions to ever-changing data needs, covering various data/database platforms and tools. This role ensures best practices are implemented to ensure systems are highly available, secure, optimal and scalable. We are looking for someone who has a very strong SQL Server background (Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL, SQL Managed Instances, PSQL), who has been working in the role of DBA or SQL Developer, and who is looking to advance their career and grow with us in the field of database administration and data engineering in the near future. The varied Data Engineer role will ensure that no day will be the same and there will always be exciting projects to work on – from T-SQL performance tuning or troubleshooting to building data pipelines, migrating environments, designing solutions or improving monitoring.

This is a 12-month maternity leave cover.

What you'll get to do

  • Perform DBA-like operational tasks that include fulfilling database-related service requests, monitoring and improving our Cloud-based SQL environments, and resolving incidents with the help of software engineers.
  • Perform T-SQL development tasks such as creating new or optimising existing T-SQL code (queries, stored procedures, functions), and reviewing and approving T-SQL code written by software engineers.
  • Participate in initiatives such as regular database performance improvement, process improvement, automation, and data security review.
  • Contribute to other projects that include tasks such as creating data pipelines, building a data model, and creating reports.
  • Mentor and coach other engineers at any level.
  • Adhere to SQL and data engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to bring better tooling and automation opportunities related to database infrastructure.
  • Participate in an on-call roster (roughly one week for 4 weeks).

What you'll bring

  • A strong understanding of SQL Best Practices and the ability to communicate such.
  • Experience working in an agile software company.
  • Experience in monitoring and tuning T-SQL stored procedures and functions.
  • Experience in typical DBA operation tasks.
  • Experience working on Cloud (Azure, AWS, GCP, etc).
  • Experience in some scripting language (PowerShell, Python, Bash, etc).
  • Experience or knowledge in PostgreSQL is preferred.
  • Experience or knowledge in DBT and ADT in a plus.
  • Experience or knowledge in CD/CI or model-based database deployments is a plus.
  • Experience or familiarity with NoSQL Database (Cosmos DB, MongoDB etc.) is a plus.
  • Experience with IaC and/or leveraging AI would be a plus.
  • Keen interest in what’s happening in the data platform space (SQL, NoSQL, datawarehousing). We don’t expect you to have hands-on experience with leading-edgetechnologies, but it would be good to understand how you keep up to date with any newtrends.
