The Opportunity
Ventia is seeking an experienced Construction Manager – Overhead Transmission Lines to lead the delivery of large-scale reconductoring projects across New Zealand. This is a national, site-based leadership role offering a unique opportunity to work on critical infrastructure with a strong and stable organisation.
Based in Wellington, you’ll be part of a high-performing team delivering projects nationwide, meaning no two projects are the same and you’ll never be bored. With a significant and growing pipeline of work, supported by Ventia’s long-standing partnership with Transpower, this role offers long-term security and the opportunity to contribute to essential network upgrades across the country.
About The Role
This is a hands-on construction leadership role, not a desk-based PM or engineering position. You will be responsible for the day-to-day execution of transmission line reconductoring works on site, ensuring safe, efficient delivery.
Projects are typically large-scale reconductoring programs (circa 4-month durations), where you will:
- Develop and execute detailed construction and run plans
- Coordinate crews, plant, materials, and subcontractors on site
- Lead multiple work fronts including conductor replacement, structure modifications, and upgrades
- Drive constructability planning and ensure readiness before work begins
- Oversee subcontractors working alongside Ventia crews (not self-performing models)
- Champion health, safety, and environmental performance at all times
This role involves regular travel across New Zealand, with relocation support available if required.
About You
You are a seasoned transmission line construction leader with strong reconductoring experience and a practical, delivery-focused mindset.
- Qualified Line Mechanic (Lineman)
- Extensive experience in transmission line wiring/construction
- Strong experience in reconductoring or large transmission upgrades (NZ or overseas)
- Background as a Lineman Supervisor stepping up or established Construction Manager
- Deep understanding of live-line and de-energised works
- Proven ability to lead crews and subcontractors on complex sites
- Strong planning, coordination, and communication skills
- Willingness to work in a national travel role
Why Join Ventia?
- National role with exposure to major projects across NZ
- Work on critical infrastructure supporting the country’s energy future
- Strong, stable company with a secure pipeline of work
- Trusted delivery partner to Transpower
- High-performing, collaborative team environment
- Diverse, dynamic work — no two projects are the same
If you’re passionate about the Energy sector and want to step into a role where you can lead significant projects across New Zealand, this is a truly unique opportunity to advance your career with Ventia.
