- Technical lead for the development of enterprise ETLs using CI/CD pipelines, including integration and ingestion of diverse enterprise data sources
- Lead, develop and support AI/ML initiatives within the Data Warehouse and Power BI platforms
- Develop, Support and maintain the Data Warehouse, Power BI and file sharing platforms

We are looking for a skilled Data Platform Engineer to play a key role in the ongoing evolution of our cloud-based data platform.
Mō te tūnga | About the role
Oranga Tamariki has recently migrated from a legacy on-premises Data Warehouse to a modern, cloud-based platform built on Azure and Databricks, with Power BI as our primary analytics and reporting tool.
This is a highly skilled and specialist technical role requiring strong data and Data Warehouse experience with a wide span of influence. You will provide technical leadership for the design and management of large and complex Data Warehouse work initiatives.
This role focuses on the stability, enhancement, and continuous improvement of the platform. You will work across both BAU support and project-based delivery:
- :25% operational support – triaging and resolving ServiceNow requests, platform maintenance, and continuous improvement
- :75% project delivery – delivering enhancements, onboarding new data sources, and enabling integrations across system
You will be actively involved in data pipeline and ETL processes, helping ensure data is reliable, accessible, and scalable for analytics and operational use cases. We are also exploring AI and advanced analytics use cases using Databricks and Microsoft technologies, providing an opportunity to contribute to forward-looking initiatives.

What you will be doing
- Supporting and maintaining the cloud data platform (Azure + Databricks)
- Enhancing and optimising data pipelines and ETL processes
- Onboarding and integrating new data sources
- Troubleshooting platform issues and resolving incidents via ServiceNow
- Contributing to CI/CD and infrastructure as code practices
- Working with vendor partners to deliver platform services
- Ensuring platform alignment with architecture, governance, and security standards
- Supporting the adoption of emerging capabilities, including AI/ML workloads
Where does this role fit
This role sits within the Data and Analytics Technology function, working closely with:
- Platform team members and the Portfolio Architect
- Working in a cross functional capacity with our Data teams
- Data Architects and enterprise architecture functions
- External technology vendors and partners
You will act as a key technical contributor within the platform team, helping bridge platform engineering, data engineering, and operational support.
Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you bring to this role:
- 4+ year's experience in data platform or data engineering roles
- Strong experience with data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, SQL Server, or similar
- Familiarity with SQL and Python
- Experience working with data warehouses and ETL pipeline development
- Experience in cloud environments (preferably Azure)
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions)
- Exposure to Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, or similar)
- Experience with analytics tools (Power BI, Tableau, or similar)
