He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor to demonstrate their expertise at Watercare, New Zealand’s largest water utility. In this role, you’ll join the Internal Audit team and use your quantity surveying skills to provide critical cost assurance across our supplier network.

You’ll play a key role in ensuring transparency and accountability in supplier charges, while evaluating the robustness of financial data used to support those charges.

Please note: This role requires a high level of engagement with suppliers and will involve spending time at the Watercare office in Newmarket and up to four days per week onsite at supplier offices, in and around the Auckland region, depending on the assignments being undertaken.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality Quantity Surveying services to support Watercare’s strategic and operational goals.
  • Provide visibility and oversight of contractor costs charged to Watercare, ensuring accuracy and fairness.
  • Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of financial data used by suppliers as the basis for invoicing Watercare, ensuring work has been completed to the required quality standards.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need to demonstrate strong people leadership and a proven ability to operate within large, complex public or corporate environments.

Your Qualifications And Experience Will Include

  • A ‘full member’ of the New Zealand Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NZIQS), or an equivalent international designation (e.g. FRICS, MRICS, or ARICS).
  • At least 7 years’ proven experience in Quantity Surveying, ideally within water and wastewater, infrastructure, utilities, or large-scale construction environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of quantity surveying methodologies, processes, and procedures, supported by a Diploma or Degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Economics.
  • A solid understanding of business operations, including relevant legislation and key commercial drivers.
  • The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality outcomes with minimal supervision.
