Data Architect - Wellington

At MAS, we're rethinking how technology and data come together to support better outcomes for our Members. As part of our Innovation and Digital team, you'll play a key role in shaping how data is structured, accessed, and used across the organisation to enable smarter decisions and better experiences. This is a Permanent Position and based in our Wellington Office.

Why this role matters

This is a foundational role where you'll bring clarity, structure, and direction to how MAS uses data. You'll design and evolve our data architecture, ensuring it's scalable, reliable, and aligned to business needs - from day-to-day operations through to advanced analytics.

You'll partner closely with stakeholders across the business, helping translate real-world needs into practical, well-designed data solutions that support decision-making and performance.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Working alongside business stakeholders, delivery teams, and data specialists to design data solutions that are practical and fit for purpose
  • Defining and evolving data models (conceptual, logical, and physical) to support both operational and analytical use cases
  • Shaping and guiding the development of our data platform and pipelines to ensure they are scalable, reliable, and future-ready
  • Providing clear direction on how data should be structured, integrated, and accessed across systems
  • Supporting strong data governance practices, including data quality, ownership, and standards
  • Ensuring data design aligns with broader architecture and integration patterns
  • Helping teams understand and adopt good data practices in a way that's clear and grounded

What You'll Bring

  • Proven experience in Data Architecture, Data Modelling, or a senior data design role
  • Strong understanding of data modelling techniques (conceptual, logical, physical)
  • Experience designing and working with modern data platforms and pipelines
  • A solid grasp of data governance, data quality, and lifecycle management
  • The ability to translate business requirements into clear, actionable data designs
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across both technical and business audiences
  • A practical, solution-focused approach with sound judgement

Ideally, You'll Also Have Experience With

  • Microsoft Azure data services (e.g. Data Factory, Synapse, Fabric, Data Lake)
  • SQL-based data platforms, ETL/ELT pipelines, and analytics tools like Power BI
  • Working in regulated environments such as financial services or insurance
